The Team includes an educator-dance artist and an educator-visual artist. The programs cater to grades K-12 in dance, Visual Arts and Social Studies. All workshops are hands-on, participatory and informational regarding history, art and dance from India. The teacher is assisted in imparting education on multi-culturalism and South Asia. India is brought into the North Carolina schools.
History
We have done the work locally in about 60 venues making close to 200 presentations in the last 10 years. We did that through CAPS program of Durham Arts Council, United Arts Council of Raleigh and Wake County, Univeristy Center for International Studies, UNC CH, and independently
Assembly Performances- With volunteer participation, we give a multimedia, hands-on cultural experience on India built around social studies, visual arts and dance ( keeping with NC courses of Study ). Particular emphasis is put on turban demo, dot demo, Bhangra and Giddha dance, Gandhi, Rangoli art and Bollywood.
Residency-Students get a hands on learning experience, especially 7th graders studying South Asia (targets 5 areas in keeping with the NC Courses of Study). Residency covers values and beliefs of people, environment in which people live, social organization, people’s occupations and changes. Participants will have hands-on interaction with dance, fabrics, religions and traditions of India. Various workshops can be requested by the teacher. Cost of supplies is extra for the Indian Food Workshop (K6-12).
